Wath Academy was founded in the 1920s as a secondary school and has served the local community for 100 years.

Liam Ransome, Principal of Wath Academy, said: “This is a momentous occasion for our Academy. In September we will have been educating people in our community for 100 years.

“Our celebrations will look to the past and our long and rich history. We’re asking for anyone with memories, be it stories, photos or artifacts from their time at the school to share them with us and we’ll be putting on a display in September to showcase the history of Wath Academy.

“A time capsule put together by our current pupils and staff will commemorate the present and we’re looking forward to working together to identify items that really capture the current time.

“Looking to the future and the future generations we’re aiming to plant 100 trees with the National Trust scheme. We all know how important looking after the environment is and we want to help to grow a positive future for our young people. We’ll be asking our supporters and families to donate to a special centenary fund to enable us to do this and we’ll be sharing more details soon.

“We have achieved so many great things in the past 100 years and we can’t wait to celebrate this major milestone and look forward to delivering even more in the next 100 years!”

Wath Academy is part of Maltby Learning Trust, David Sutton, chief executive officer of Maltby Learning Trust, said: “This is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the Academy’s achievements and recognise the important role they play within the Trust. We are looking forward to hearing some of the fantastic stories of success from former pupils and staff and marking this marvellous milestone with them.”
